Reduction of fuel consumption of a diesel engine by applying Ecodriving in Quito-Ecuador

Abstract

Currently the increase in the cost of diesel, climate change, energy supply problems, health problems due to air pollution and socio-economic problems; that these carry have been the main motivators for the development of alternatives for energy saving. The diesel-powered transportation sector is one of which has the greatest opportunity for improvement in terms of energy efficiency. One efficiency strategy is to modify the style of drivers to a mode known as ecodriving, which can be applied to vehicles fueled by diesel. This article compares the fuel consumption in an MEC engine on a route with a distance of 9 990 m of suburban travel and 8 100 m of urban travel, which has a height variation of 2 399 meters the lowest point and 2 870 the highest point tall. By applying a normal driving mode and an efficient driving mode, in a 2 000 cc TDI Volkswagen Amarok vehicle. By OBDLink ® LX scanner, by applying normal driving style and eco driving style. The results obtained reveal that by applying an ecological driving mode, instantaneous fuel consumption is reduced, obtaining fuel savings benefits in the city of Quito and higher performance per gallon.
