Abstract

A study was carried out in the period from December 2018 to December 2019 with the application of an educational program. The universe consisted of 120 patients and the sample included 120 patients. Of them 70 corresponded to the female sex and 50 to the male sex, aged between 7 and 8 years. A survey was applied to them in order to determine their knowledge about oral health and the control of the dentobacterial plaque was performed to evaluate their oral hygiene before and after the intervention. The patients were summoned with their parents, to whom the objective of the investigation was explained and then informed consent was obtained due to the legal importance it has for it; it was collected in writing. The interrogation and physical examination was performed by direct visualization in adequate light conditions and supported by a mouth mirror. Data were collected through individual medical history. The results were presented through the use of statistical tables using statistical and percentage numbers. They showed that before the intervention there were low levels of knowledge about oral health, as well as poor oral hygiene in most children, both variables showing a close relationship; After the intervention, a significant improvement in knowledge and oral hygiene was achieved. It was concluded with an effectiveness of the participatory educational program applied and the methods and means of teaching used, given the favorable changes that were achieved after the intervention.
