Humanized care for the person in critical condition and family: Nursing perception

Humanized care in critically ill persons and their families has an impact on the quality of care and emotional well-being. Objective: to describe the humanized care provided by the nursing professional to the critically ill person and his/her family in the intensive care unit. Method: a qualitative approach with descriptive design of bibliographic review type was used. The population consisted of 30 articles obtained from databases such as Scopus, Scielo and Google Scholar; the sample consisted of 20 articles selected according to eligibility criteria. The articles were analyzed by the inductive method. Results: 4 articles that addressed the importance of humanized care in the ICU; 4 studies that addressed the role of the nursing staff in the comprehensive care of the critically ill person, as well as the family; and 4 articles that described the relationship between the family and the care of the person in the ICU, its challenges and opportunities. Conclusions: humanized care in critical areas improves the experience of the ill person and family members, emphasizing effective communication and empathy. However, challenges such as emotional overload of staff and communication barriers persist.
