Sensitivity and specificity of immunochromatographic tests used for the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS in Ecuador

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that attacks the body's immune system. If left untreated, it can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), one of the major health problems worldwide. Advances in medicine have allowed the development of treatments that can minimize HIV by preventing the onset of diseases, which is why early diagnosis is essential. The objective of this research is to determine the sensitivity and specificity of immunochromatographic tests for the diagnosis of HIV. A compilation and review of bibliographic documentary material on related topics was carried out. Articles published from 2017 to 2022 were analyzed, meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. For the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS there are currently many tests for detection. There are a series of national and international regulations and procedures for the proper application of these tests. It is concluded that the current tests for the detection and diagnosis of HIV are highly effective even if they follow the appropriate procedures for their application and evaluation.
