Abstract

In December 2019, an outbreak of acute respiratory infection due to a novel coronavirus was detected in Wuhan, China. By the end of December, this disease had spread to other locations in China and the world. In February 2020, China's public health authorities recognized the new disease as coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. In order to analyze the pulmonary involvement and biomarkers associated with the progression of the SARS-CoV-2 virus disease, a descriptive and exploratory documentary research design was carried out through a literature search in scientific databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Redalyc, Springer and other official sources such as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), World Health Organization (WHO) books, and health reports. In conclusion, the main pulmonary abnormalities were peribronchial thickening, ground glass opacities, vascular congestion, pulmonary fibrosis, the most prevalent comorbidities that influenced the severity of the disease were diabetes, The most prevalent comorbidities influencing disease severity were diabetes, arterial hypertension, cardiovascular disease and renal disease. As for biomarkers, D-dimer, CRP, LDH, lymphocyte count, procalcitonin, ferritin and IL-6 had the highest correlation with patient severity.
