Abstract

Access to drinking water is essential for the sustainable development of populations, however, the increase in population, industry and agriculture increases the global demand for water by almost 1% annually. In the province of Tungurahua, Ecuador, the control of drinking water consumption as well as its invoicing is done manually, causing the user to be unaware of the expense he makes, so the low-cost prototype of real-time measurement of the drinking water consumption of a family home, allowed monitoring its consumption, while providing the ability to determine the approximate costs to be paid in the consumption form, alerting users of possible leaks. Wireless communication was used to integrate the database to an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that allowed analysis of the collected data. The tests show that the prototype has a 96% reliability with respect to the traditional meter used by the Public Company - Municipal Drinking Water and Sewerage Company of Ambato.
