Abstract

The purpose of the research was to analyze the risk and vulnerability to floods in the La Karina and San Felipe sectors of the city of Calceta province of Manabí, where a flood risk diagnosis was made based on bibliographical background and testimonies of the inhabitants to determine the main vulnerabilities they face, being one of the most susceptible, the physical vulnerability of the dwellings, in which, to establish the ranges of this vulnerability, the qualitative and heuristic methodology was used, being captured through a map, which shows the low, medium, high and very high vulnerability ranges associated with colors, having the following results: In La Karina, 3 blocks presented very high vulnerability, 3 blocks with high vulnerability and 2 blocks with medium vulnerability; while in the citadel San Felipe 3 blocks presented very high vulnerability, 10 high, 11 medium and 9 with low vulnerability, determining that La Karina, despite being a smaller sector than San Felipe, was the one that obtained the highest level of blocks with high rates of vulnerability. Finally, with the data obtained, a community preventive flood risk management plan was generated.
